Shibari, also known as Kinbaku, is an eastern style of erotic rope bondage. Usually attributed to being Japanese since many of the ties used emulate the restraints used by the Samurai to confine their captives.

In short a model or "rope bottom" is artistically immobalized or suspended with rope by a rigger, usually referred to as a nawashi. The person being bound is a canvas to display the intricate patterns formed by the complex ties and becomes a living work of art.

I can already hear the next questions forming. "Does it hurt?" "Why would anyone want to be tied up like that?"

Well, my answer to the first question is that it shouldn't. Not in a bad way at least.

Why? That is a personal question that has a different answer for each person that ties, or becomes bound. To some it looks cool, others like the feel of it, others enjoy the chance to just relax and give up any need to control the world around them for a short time. Each person is different. The name Nawa Yoi is actually a little inside joke. Nawa Yoi translates roughly into "Drunk on Rope" and refers to the feelings that a rope bottom might encounter when the ropes are applied. There are essays and books that have been written by people far more able to answer this question. Check out my links page for educational resources that can help.

Next, naturally, comes the question of SEX.
